What people are saying about Us:

This was one of the best trips I’ve ever taken thanks to Puma Expeditions!! My husband and I traveled with a group of 9 total on our trip to Cusco, our main guide Jorge was excellent leader for the group! It was a trip filled with education and exploration. Our guide for our 2 days Machu Picchu adventure was Miguel. He was extremely knowledgeable and passionate about the Inca history.

Thanks to everyone at Puma Expeditions for the trip of a lifetime!!

referred to as the "weaver's route" is Lares. We are invited to experience the Inca way of life through this trek. There are rich historical customs that the farmers and local people continue to practice along its culturally rich trails, such as weaving textiles from the Incas. Lares is a 34-kilometer hike that offers a glimpse into the past of the Inca Empire through living history and archeological ruins.

It is recommended that passengers who are not up for an extremely strenuous trail take the trek. Nonetheless, two passes exceeding 4,000 meters above sea level must be taken into account while traveling this route. As a result, it is advised that participants be adequately acclimated to the altitude. In addition to trail enthusiasts, there are trekkers who are interested in learning more about the communities they pass through, single tourists who are curious about the local way of life, adventurous couples, and groups of friends. Everyone will appreciate the different route to Lares.

DAY 01  CUSCO / LARES / HUACAWASI

Following breakfast, we will set out on our journey in a private van, passing through the Sacred Valley and arriving at the town of Calca (2,925 m.a.s.l.), where we will stop for a short while to pick up any supplies we might need for the trek. Afterwards, we will cross the Amparaes pass (4,580 m.a.s.l. ), from which we can see the area's stunning valley and mountain range. We will descend to this valley via Andean settlements, llamado groups and alpaca groups, for example. The Hot Springs* are located close to the town of Lares, providing a tranquil place to swim and unwind after a strenuous journey. Here, we'll have lunch as well. Later on in the afternoon, we'll begin our hike. We'll climb up to the mountain town of Huacahuasi (3,750 m.a.s.l. ), a true Andean community where you can see vibrant textiles and traditional attire. Here is where we will set up camp for the night.

DAY 02  HUACAHUASI/ PUMAMARKA

Today, as we progressively ascend, we will pass through stunning scenery that includes stunning herds of alpacas and llamas. Alpaca and llama groups can typically be found in this area as well. We will arrive at the Ipsayccasa pass (4,450 m.a.s.l.) after two and a half hours, which offers breathtaking views of the surrounding snowy mountain range and the snowy mountain Verónica (5,750 m.a.s.l.). We will then make our way down to Lake Ipsaycocha (4, 350 m.a.s.l.). The Andean goose, Andean ibis, and various aquatic birds that inhabit the surrounding area are among the fauna that can be found in this Andean lake. We'll relax and eat lunch here. Later on, we'll keep going downhill until we reach Patacancha (3,750 m.a.s.l.). This Andean town continues to display its traditional attire and textiles. After a roughly 30-minute local bus ride to Huallata, we will walk for an additional 45 minutes to our campsite, Pumamarka (3,750 m.a.s.l. ), an archeological site strategically positioned between two mountains. We'll set up our campsite for the night here.

DAY 03  PUMAMARKA/ OLLANTAYTAMBO/ AGUAS CALIENTES

We will go to the Pumamarka archaeological site, also known as "Puma Town," after breakfast (3, 750 m.a.s.l.)After that, we will descend through a stunning valley to Ollantaytambo (2, 850 m.a.s.l.), where we can see a portion of the Inca Trail. Along the route are smaller archeological rests and typical local flora and fauna. When we arrive at Ollantaytambo, also referred to as the Inca's Living Town, you will observe that the city's streets, homes, and other structures date back to the Inca era and are still in use by the local populace.

We will prepare to board our train and travel to Aguas Calientes (2,040 m.a.s.l.) where we will spend one night in a hotel following lunch and a well-earned nap.

DAY 04  AGUAS CALIENTES/ MACHU PICCHU

We'll get up early to catch the bus to Machu Picchu (2,430 meters above sea level), where we'll be among the first guests of the day to experience the enchantment and mystery of one of the world's wonders. During our two-hour guided tour, which will begin at the scheduled time and location, we will take in the natural beauty of Machupicchu and the surrounding area as well as the ethereal peace of the lost Inca city. We're going to take the bus to Aguas Calientes by afternoon. After arriving in town, you will have some free time to grab lunch. Later that day, we will ride the Perú Rail – Expedition* train back to our starting point.  Our transfer will be waiting for you in our private van when you get to Cusco to take you back.
